Backup Management

Download and restore backups of your hosting account.

Full Account Backup

Download Full Backup

A full backup includes:

  • All files in home directory
  • All MySQL databases
  • All email accounts and messages
  • DNS zone configurations
  • SSL certificates

To download:

  1. Go to Backups section
  2. Click Generate Full Backup
  3. Choose destination:
    • Home Directory - Save to your account
    • Remote FTP - Send to FTP server
    • Remote SCP - Send via secure copy
  4. Enter email for notification (optional)
  5. Click Generate

Full backups can take several minutes to hours depending on account size.

Download Previous Backups

If your server has automated backups configured:

  1. Go to Backups section
  2. View available backup dates
  3. Click Download next to desired backup

Partial Backups

Home Directory Backup

Download only your files:

  1. Click Download Home Directory Backup
  2. File downloads as compressed archive

MySQL Database Backup

Download individual databases:

  1. Go to Database Backups tab
  2. Select database from list
  3. Click Download
  4. SQL file downloads

Email Backup

Download email data:

  1. Go to Email Backups tab
  2. Select email account or domain
  3. Click Download

Restore Backups

Restore Home Directory

  1. Go to Restore tab
  2. Click Choose File
  3. Select your backup file (.tar.gz)
  4. Click Upload & Restore

Restoring will overwrite existing files with the same names.

Restore MySQL Database

  1. Go to Restore MySQL
  2. Select database to restore into
  3. Upload SQL file
  4. Click Restore

Restore Email

  1. Go to Restore Email
  2. Select backup file
  3. Choose email account
  4. Click Restore

Backup Best Practices

Frequency

  • Daily: For active websites with frequent changes
  • Weekly: For less active sites
  • Before major changes: Always backup before updates

Storage

  • Keep backups in multiple locations
  • Use remote FTP/SCP for offsite backup
  • Retain multiple backup versions

Testing

  • Periodically test restore process
  • Verify backup integrity
  • Document restore procedures

Automated Backups

If your hosting provider has JetBackup or similar:

  1. View scheduled backup times
  2. Download point-in-time backups
  3. Restore specific files or databases

cPanel Backup Configuration

Server administrators can configure:

  • Backup frequency (daily/weekly/monthly)
  • Retention period
  • Included/excluded directories
  • Compression settings
